“MUFFINS”
An account of one of the Lord’s teachings to hear His voice in the late 1980s when we were in
Spokane, WA:
I was just awakening and the Lord clearly said;
“Muffins.”
I considered it and decided He was saying I was to take muffins in to the office that morning to share with the office. What a delightful way to start the day – hearing from God and getting marching orders; no matter how simple.
En route to work I stopped at the first bakery. They had numerous goodies, but no muffins. I resisted the temptation to substitute, and proceeded on toward the office and stopped at the next bakery I passed. Searching the display cases, once again there were many delectables but no muffins. All the other baked goods looked scrumptious, I had lost time, and I was growing impatient with what should have been a simple task. But I did not feel right in my spirit about the alternatives and decided, “No, the Lord said ‘muffins’”.
By now I had wasted a lot of time and was running late; but, taking a detour, I came to the last bakery on that side of town. No muffins there that morning either. This was getting exasperating. I stewed about it, and even though I had no peace in my spirit, I purchased something other than muffins and went on to the office.
It wasn’t my fault no one had muffins that morning, was it? I would just have to make the best of the situation and do the best I could. The Lord couldn’t ask any more of me. Could He? The people in the office would still be blessed by what I had bought.
I finally got to work and parked the car. On my way into the building I met Tom who was a client and we talked for a couple of minutes. As I turned to go he said;
“Wait, I have something for you.”
and went around to the rear of his car.
You’ve probably guessed -- he reached into the back of his car and pulled out a box of a dozen muffins.
